Green Gambling

an uncle of mine is too stubborn to get gambling addiction help and he needs it!what can we do?force him? how?

he is spending all of his kids money going from utah to nevada to gamble. It is hurting his family but he refuses to admit he has an addiction and the gambling counseling programs in utah require his consent to receive the counseling. but his family want him to acquire it now.

  1. Get the whole family together and do an intervention! He is going to lose everyone he loves! Good luck! :)
  2. bet him a thousand dollars he won't seek help.
  3. Being a recovering addict myself, (not to gambling) I know that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. No matter how bad the situation is, he will not be able to recover until he's reached his bottom. Forcing him into a program can do one of two things, one, it could actually make it worse once he gets out, or two, it may plant some seeds in his mind that will be helpful in the future. Until he is ready, and he can see it's a problem, counseling will probably do no good. He has to feel enough pain to truly want to stop, until then, it's doubtful any program will work. I wish I had better news. There are however, miracles. They do happen everyday. Faith and prayer can work wonders, but remember...God always answers our prayers, it may be yes, it may be no, or it could be not yet. If the answer is no or not yet, it may seem unfair and hurtful, but God is in control and His plan is perfect. He didn't say we wouldn't suffer or have pain, but he will provide the comfort we need to endure it. Best of luck!
  4. If possible keep him away from money and business. Request a hardworker to make friendship with him and slowly tell him the importance of hard work.
  5. You can't stop him until he wants help to quit you can tell a drunk when you see one but a gambler not so easy. If I was his wife I would give a choice to go for help or I was taking my children and leaving some times they half to hit rock bottom before they stop Good Luck
  6. gamblers anonmyous is based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonmyous...try a search of that. good luck
