Is gambling as addictive as heroin? What type of person gets addicted to gambling?

I have just had news that one of our old CE regs is now bankrupt due to a gambling habit. This is on top of having an accident that fractured her skull. Some people have terrible luck dont they? Hope you get sorted Freethinker.

2. Well people with addictive personality's can get addicted to almost anything so it really depends on the person in question.

7. Steph, that's just so awful. Addicted to gambling? What type of person? Thank god i'm 57 or you might not believe me but during my years in business i have met so many people who have done so many things and addictions to drink, drugs and gambling weren't the worst! I know a lovely C of E Vicars wife who is addicted, a Doctor, a Bin Man and quite a few others but they all have the same belief:- one day they will beat the Bookie! I also know quite a few Bookies, being a member at York, and they're all well off, nice homes, cars, and privately educated children - what does that tell you? Unfortunately trying to counsel a member of staff with the affliction who wanted to borrow money against his/her salary wasn't really appreciated when i was working but i never gave them it.
8. Gambling is for losers......One has to be a sad dreamer to believe that one can beat the system....I have no sympathy for gamblers or drug users or drunks..... Can you lend me a tenner? i'm dying for a drink, gambling is thirsty work!.

10. I don't know exactly how addictive gambling is - I don't have the nerve! But it can't surely be as devastating as heroin addiction?

12. well you get quite an adrenaline rush when you win, hence you get addicted to the rush.. it happens... I would hate falling off my barstool and cracking my head open!!
13. What type? Morons. Ever stop to look at the fancy smancy opulent casinos with their free drinks and cheap food? T^hey don't get that from giving money to "lucky" gamblers.j Any idiot should see they are throwing their money away trying to beat the odds.
